Specification for Class of
TEACHER'S AIDE (21010)
Definition: Works with developmentally disabled, sensory handicapped, neglected or delinquent individuals or offenders within or outside of the classroom under the direction of an assigned teacher.
Typical Work
Assists teacher in classroom work, field trips and any other duties called for by teacher;
Supervises and helps with activities and maintains discipline while the teacher gives individual attention to each individual in turn;
Attends residents to and from their living facilities to the classroom;
Assists in the classroom with self-help needs;
Attends and assists individuals to and from recreational facilities;
Assists on field trips, and helps the teacher with any other duties called for by the teacher;
Performs other work as required.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: classroom procedures; health and safety precautions.
Ability to: secure and maintain confidence and cooperation of developmentally disabled individuals or individuals with sensory handicaps, delinquent or neglected individuals or adult offenders; guide them in work, study and leisure activities; follow written and oral instructions.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school.
